A 53-year-old road crew worker was killed this evening when he was run over by an operated bulldozer at a road construction site along eastbound Route 24 east of Legion Road in Washington.

According to a press release from Interim Tazewell County Coroner Cara Wilson, about 6:10 p.m. the coroner's office was notified of the accident, which resulted in the death of James A. Davis of Atlanta, Ill. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning, at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21.

The accident is under investigation by the Tazewell County Coroner's Office, the Washington Police Department and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit. An inquest into the cause and manner of Davis' death will be conducted at a later date.
