Signing up to play in the Pekin Junior Football League (JFL) program has become as easy as logging into a computer.
The organization is holding online registration for the first time for its tackle football (ages 8-14) and flag football (ages 5-7) teams.
Go to www.pekinjfl.com. All the forms and pertinent information can be found there. Online registration will continue through July 10. Cost is $85 for tackle football and $35 for flag football.
An in-person signup will be held from 5-7 p.m. July 12 in the JFL equipment building at the Pekin Park District Sports Complex on Koch Street. Fee for tackle football after July 12 is $115.
“Online registration should make the process easier for coaches, board members and parents,” said Pekin JFL President Eric Henson. “It certainly will cut down on the more than 300 hours needed for coaches and board members to do data entry and go through paperwork and the time spent for registration.”
Last year there were 310 players on 14 Pekin JFL tackle football teams and 125 players on 10 Pekin JFL flag football teams.
“We’re hopeful for the same numbers this year,” Henson said.

There are five levels of tackle football in the Pekin JFL program, based on players’ age and weight: squirt, peewee, junior varsity, varsity and senior. Pekin JFL flag football has two levels. Mighty mites are ages 5-6 and midgets are ages 6-7.
Pekin JFL tackle football teams play in the JFL of Central Illinois. Pekin JFL flag football is an in-house league. Tackle football and flag football games begin after Labor Day.
