Final: Limestone 5, Pekin 1.

Summary: This Mid-Illini Conference softball game felt like a paper cut for Pekin. Host Limestone scored one run in the first, second, third, fifth and sixth innings. Winning pitcher Gabby Wood threw a four-hitter and fanned four. Losing pitcher Brittney Spiesz allowed four runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Solo shots: Each team hit a solo home run. Bailey Tibbetts blasted one for Pekin in the fifth after Limestone’s Zoey Smith smacked a solo homer in the third.

Hitters: Tibbetts had two of Pekin’s four hits. She had a single in the seventh in addition to her homer. Alyssa Otten had two hits for Limestone, which had nine hits.

That’s it: It was the conference finale for both teams.

Quote: “Limestone is hitting the ball really well right now. We had some sparkling plays in the field and some head-scratchers. We have two games in the Quad Cities before regionals that will prepare us for regionals. Our sophomore team beat Limestone and clinched second place in the conference. That’s a huge accomplishment.” — Pekin coach Gigi MacIntosh.

Records: Limestone 16-10, 8-6; Pekin 14-16, 2-12.

Next: Pekin at Rock Island (2), 10 a.m. today (non-conference games).
