EAST PEORIA — Nominations are being accepted for the East Peoria Beautification Commission's Paul Peterson Bright Spot Award.

The Paul Peterson Bright Spot Award is named for Paul Peterson, who for 31 years tended the triangle garden in the center of the intersection of Highview Road and Illini and Simon drives, near his home. Peterson was honored with the new award on Sept. 29, 2015, when a commemorative plaque was installed at the garden plot. He passed away in January.

Those eligible for nomination are residents and businesses who have eye-appealing gardens and/or landscaping making it a "bright spot" of the area. The size of the property does not matter. If a property looks appealing, residents are encouraged to nominate it for the award.

The Bright Spot award will be presented on an ongoing basis. Recipients will receive a sign to place in their yard for one month announcing they have been selected for the Bright Spot award.

A nomination form and option to submit a photo of the property is available online at www.cityofeastpeoria.com.
