1928 - 2017
Leonard Lyle “Lyn” Pherigo, son of Ernie and Lula Faye Pherigo, passed away peacefully at his home in Oceanside, Calif., Feb. 2, 2017, at the age of 88 years.
Born in Kilbourne, Ill., Lyn graduated from Pekin Community High School with the Class of 1948. He is a Bronze Medal Korean War veteran, proudly serving our country as Master Sgt. in the United States Army.
Best known as Saugus Speedway public relations manager, race car announcer and pace car driver from 1972-1988, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Anne Pherigo; and three daughters, Diana Lyn Sunde, Lynda (Pherigo) Volpe and Carolee (Pherigo) Washburn. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who reside in California, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Joni Pherigo.
A private cremation was arranged. A future graveside service with Military Honors will be announced at a later date and will be handled by Hurley Funeral Home.
