Area police are searching again for a Springfield man who allegedly posed as a law enforcement officer several times to steal thousands of dollars in merchandise from East Peoria stores in June.
Steven Dilley, 45, failed to appear Monday in Tazewell County Circuit Court, prompting forfeiture of the $3,000 cash bond he posted after his arrest on charges of continuing a criminal enterprise, impersonating a peace officer and felony retail theft.
In late June, Dilley made calls to two East Peoria stores to warn guards there of a known shoplifter, then stole items from the stores while they were distracted, the charges allege. Before he was caught in one of the stores’ parking lot, he had allegedly stolen several thousands of dollars in goods.
Dilley pulled the same ruse in Normal, according to charges filed there. He has past convictions for burglary and retail theft.
