Par for the course hasn’t been good enough lately for Pekin golfer Mason Minkel.

After shooting 3-under-par 69 last weekend at Meadowview to win medalist honors in the rain-shortened Mattoon Invitational, Minkel shot 2-under 33 Tuesday on the front nine at Metamora Fields.

The sophomore was the medalist again as Pekin defeated Metamora 149-162 in a Mid-Illini Conference match.

Justin Taphorn (35), Cooper Theleritis (40) and Ethan Sullivan (41) also scored for the Dragons (4-1, 8-3). Brady Hilst and Jack Kuethe each shot 46.

“The guys who kept the ball in the fairway there (at Metamora Fields) were rewarded,” said Pekin coach Jeremy Crouch.

Colten Kahler led Metamora with 38.

Pekin will host the Dragon Invitational on Saturday at Lick Creek.
