PEORIA — Even though the clerk didn’t see the incident, a security camera recorded a customer at Beachler’s Vehicle Care & Repair stuffing the donation container for Crittenton Center down the front of his pants Wednesday evening, according to a report filed at the Peoria Police Department.

When staff later discovered the container missing they reviewed security footage, which showed a man walk into the store and take the container off the counter. He turned away from the camera before putting it down the front of his jeans, the report said. He then made a derogatory comment to the clerk about other customers before walking out the door.

The container was full when it was taken, an estimated loss of about $100, the police report said.

The store manager told police that the man is a regular customer at the gas station, and that staff will try to get the man’s vehicle license number the next time he comes in, the report said.
