PEORIA — Officers found an apartment in Taft Homes spattered in blood after a 49-year-old man walked into Main Street Liquors shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday night with a stab wound in his abdomen, according to a Peoria police report.
The man told officers his girlfriend had stabbed him while the pair were smoking crack in an apartment in Taft Homes. He’d tried to grab a lighter while she was using it, which led to an altercation, according to the report.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they found blood on the hallway floor, on the bathroom door jamb, on rags, clothing, and sheets in the kitchen closet. There was also blood on a cloth wrapped around the handle of a large kitchen knife on the kitchen counter, according to the report.
Police arrested a 58-year-old woman who told them the victim pushed her down during the altercation over the lighter. She refused to have her injuries photographed but said her backside was a little sore, according to the report.
When asked about the bloody sheets in the kitchen closet, the woman told police she and the victim had sex after the altercation. The woman told police the couple have been together for 14 years and would be back together after this incident as well, the report said.
The man’s injuries were not life-threatening.
