EAST PEORIA — Fondulac District Library will host a candidate forum at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 13.

There are two people running for East Peoria mayor, both current city commissioners; and seven candidates running for four seats on the City Council.

Running for mayor are Tim Jeffers and John Kahl. Jeffers has served three terms on the City Council; Kahl has served one four-year term. The winner will succeed Dave Mingus as mayor of the city; the loser will be off the City Council. Mingus served three terms as mayor and chose not to run for re-election.

Running for commissioner are three-term incumbent Dan Decker and challengers Mark Hill, Stephen Matheny, Rocio Matthews, Norman Sales, Michael Lee Sutherland and Seth Mingus.

The forum will be hosted by the library at the East Peoria Civic Complex meeting rooms adjacent to the library, co-hosted and moderated by the League of Women Voters and broadcast by East Side Community Media.

All candidates have been invited to attend.

Roberta Parks of the League of Women Voters will moderate the forum. Audience members will have the opportunity to submit questions for the candidates.

East Side Community Media plans to live stream the forum on Facebook and to air it live on Comcast Channel 22 and I3 Broadband Channel 12. It will also post the recorded forum to www.esctv.org and re-broadcast it on channels 22 and 12 several times before the election. East Side Community Media is East Peoria's public, educational and governmental access cable channel.

The city of East Peoria is led by a commission form of government. The April 2 consolidated election will elect the mayor and four commissioners to concurrent four-year terms. They are all elected at-large and not by any geographical district. As a group, all five are responsible for city management and general functions. Individually, each commissioner is assigned responsibility for specific departments.
