MORRIS — A truck driven by an East Peorian struck and killed a man who ran across an interstate highway Thursday in Grundy County, reports stated.

John Lovell, 45, was behind the wheel of a Freightliner semitrailer about noon on Interstate 80 east of Morris when it hit the man in the westbound lanes, the Morris Herald-News reported.

Jacob R. Perry, 27, of Morris was pronounced dead at 12:35 p.m. at the scene, the Grundy County Coroner's Office stated.

Perry was driving west on I-80 near milepost 114 when he pulled his vehicle to the shoulder and parked it, according to the coroner.

Lovell's truck hit Perry as he was running to the other side of the road. It isn't clear why Perry did that, or why he stopped his vehicle.

No information was forthcoming from the Illinois State Police division in Lockport. The public-information officer there does not work Fridays, according to a woman who answered the telephone.

Westbound I-80 was closed for about two hours, according to the Herald-News. Traffic was diverted and re-routed.

Morris is located west of Joliet.
