The Tremont softball team won a pitchers’ duel Wednesday.

The Turks’ Paige McAllister and Fieldcrest’s Alivia Tjaden fought pitch-for-pitch during an entire Heart of Illinois Conference game. Each struck out 12 and did not issue a walk. They gave up just six hits between them.

Host Tremont won 2-1, scoring on RBI singles by Hannah Nguyen in the first inning and Hillary Mason in the fourth. Nguyen had two of the Turks’ four hits.

Fieldcrest scored its lone run in the fifth.

Tremont improved to 11-2, 5-0.

ON STRIKE: Pitchers who throw strikes are difficult to beat.

Tremont’s Silas Israel was a strike-throwing machine Wednesday in the Turks’ 4-1 win over visiting Fieldcrest in a Heart of Illinois Conference baseball game.

Israel threw 103 pitches in a complete-game effort; 81 pitches were strikes. He allowed three hits, walked one and struck out 10.

Marco Falcon and Kaden Kruse each had a double for Tremont (10-6, 4-1).

DUNNE DEAL: Limestone blanked visiting East Peoria 7-0 Wednesday in a Mid-Illini Conference baseball game as Mike Dunne threw a four-hit shutout. Dunne and Alex Rupp each hit a solo home run for the Rockets.

NOT FOOTBALL: This was not a football game. Illini Bluffs beat Illini Central 32-7 Wednesday in a baseball game at Illini Central.

The game’s statistics are, well, mind-boggling. Illini Bluffs had 24 hits and Illini Central made 12 errors. The Tigers’ Cam Scott had four hits, drove in six runs and scored five times.

TOO MANY MISTAKES: The Pekin softball team outhit visiting Metamora on Tuesday, but five errors hurt the Dragons. So did scoring just two runs.

Metamora won the Mid-Illini Conference game 6-2.

“We didn’t get big hits and we made mistakes defensively,” said Pekin coach Skip Penning.

Winning pitcher Kaylee Hieronymus had two hits and two RBI for the Redbirds, who had nine hits off two Pekin pitchers. Hieronymus struck out six and didn’t walk anyone.

Kylie Cutting had three hits for Pekin. Mya Stoller, Olivia Percefull and Camryn Tibbetts each had two hits for the Dragons.
