Three area FIRST Robotics teams placed highly in their divisions at the world championships held last month in Detroit. Teams compete in divisional competitions there, based on the large number of competitors, before final championship rounds.
FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Students in the activity are tasked each year with constructing robots that complete set tasks, and are sponsored by local organizations.
Limestone Community High School's team Argos took second place in the finals for its division at the competition.
Metamora Township High School's team Mars Wars finished in the semifinals of its division.
Tremont High School's team Roboteers finished in the quarterfinals of its division.
