A Memorial Day Best Ball Twister tournament was played Monday at Pekin Country Club.

No, the tournament name wasn’t a reference to the tornadic weather around the area in recent weeks. Twister is an interesting twist on the traditional best ball competition.

Here’s how Nick McClellan, assistant golf professional at Pekin Country Club, describes a twister tournament:

“It’s a team event with four people. You take one best ball on the par 5’s, two best balls on the par 4’s and three best balls on the par 3’s.”

So who won Monday?

Matt Compton, Eric Prichard, Dirk Roecker and Ron Sefried combined to shoot 111.

In second place with 112, just one stroke back, were Chris Frasco, Greg Rice, Glenn Bond and Bill Shock.

Derek McCully, Brad Gregurich, Brad Glassey and Kent Collins were third with 115.

Austin Craig, Dennis Ewald, Dan Rogers and David Whitesell were fourth with 118.

Luke Gruden, Rob Coventry, Allan Hart and Jeff Peterson were fifth with 119.
