EAST PEORIA — Officials with East Peoria School District 86 said a junior high student was recently suspended for a threatening social media post.
In a Sept. 27 news release sent to Central Junior High School families, the district acknowledged the post and said student safety was not in doubt. The student who went the message, the release said, was suspended.
“The student responsible for the message was identified and admitted writing the threatening message but denied any intention to carry out the threats,” read the release. “There was no additional evidence or indication that the student actually intended to carry out the threat.”
Both the school and law enforcement conducted investigations, according to the release, but the student was not prosecuted.
“The safety of our students and staff is the District’s highest priority,” read the release.
