PEORIA — Work on War Memorial Drive will begin on Monday as preparation for the rebuilding of one of the spans of the McClugage Bridge.

Illinois Department of Transportation screws will start with lane width restrictions and closures along eastbound War Memorial Drive between the ramps to and from the southbound Adams Street or Illinois Route 29 interchange and across McClugage Bridge to Tazewell County.

The department said in a news release the lane restrictions will be on the ramps to and from Route 150 at southbound Illinois 29 with flaggers present to control traffic as crews place temporary pavement. The lane closures will be along U.S 150 from the Adams Street interchange across the bridge to accommodate work on the Tazewell County side.

The following week, on Nov. 4,  additional work will begin on the ramp from eastbound Route 150 to southbound Main Street which is also known as westbound Illinois Route 116, in East Peoria, where lanes will be narrowed to install temporary pavement.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
