Washington’s Jacob Warner was in the national spotlight all year.

As a senior, he was nearly untouchable in going 45-0 and winning his third consecutive state title. He started and ended his senior season ranked No. 1 in the nation by every ratings publication at 195 pounds.

The Iowa recruit led the Panthers to a second consecutive team state title (see No. 9) and was named the Journal Star Male Athlete of the Year. Warner also earned a first-team spot on the USA Today All-USA Wrestling Team and was a finalist for national Wrestler of the Year. In a Twitter poll conducted by USA Today, Warner won the popular vote — receiving more than 16,000 votes.

Before heading to Iowa, he earned USA Wrestling Junior national titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at 195. The college career didn’t start out too badly either, as the expected redshirt began life as a Hawkeye with a pair of tournament victories and was named TheMat.com’s USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on November 22.
