East Peoria hosts the 27th annual East Peoria Invitational cross country meet on Saturday at Illinois Central College. The 23-school event begins at 9 a.m. with the varsity girls race, followed 40 minutes later by the varsity boys race.
Metro area teams competing include host East Peoria, Dunlap, Morton, Washington, Manual, Limestone, Pekin, Peoria High, Canton, Eureka, Richwoods and Peoria Heights.
Mahomet-Seymour is the defending team champion, in both boys and girls varsity events.
Elsewhere, Tremont and Deer Creek-Mackinaw travel Saturday to the St. Joseph-Ogden Spartan Invitational while Illinois Valley Central heads to the Kewanee Invitational and Illini Bluffs participates in the Monmouth-Roseville Invitational.
The Dunlap girls varsity squad competes in the Palatine Invitational at the Deer Grove East Forest Preserve, where three-time all-stater Abby Johnson is expected to make her first full appearance of the season.
