Conservationist & author will speak at special program Oct. 23
The Town & Country Gardeners of Washington is sponsoring a special evening program at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the senior room at Five Points Washington. Jannifer Powelson, conservationist and author, will present “Getting Back to Nature.” Refreshments will be served, and Powelson will have books available for purchase. The program is free and open to the public.
Born and raised on a farm in Northwestern Illinois, Jannifer Powelson’s interest in conservation and the natural world was sparked at an early age, and continued into her education. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biology. She is also the author of four books in the Rachel Raccoon and Sammy Skunk Series that use entertaining storylines, colorful and realistic illustrations, and photos taken by Powelson to educate children about nature. Books in Powelson’s Nature Station Mystery Series encompass her passions of writing, photography, nature, and reading mysteries. Powelson is employed as a conservationist and resides in Princeton, Illinois with her husband and two daughters. She also is the co-founder of Progressive Rising Phoenix Press and serves as Chief Financial Officer.
The Town & Country Gardeners is a community organization dedicated to advancing knowledge, skills, and interest in gardening, civic beautification, and conservation. The group has recently celebrated its 60th anniversary, currently has over 50 members, and is open to anyone with an interest in gardening and conservation.
