Obituary: Barbara McMurtrey, 73, of Crocker, Mo.

EAST PEORIA - Barbara Ann McMurtrey, 73, of Crocker, Mo., formerly of East Peoria, died at 3:51 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo. 

Born April 7, 1941, in Lexington, Tenn., to Claude L. and Gussie J. Wilkins McCollum, she married Virgil McMurtrey on Oct. 12, 1959, in Crocker, Mo. He survives.

Also surviving are her children, Larry (Shelly) McMurtrey and Shelley (Andy) Nordwall, all of Peoria; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and siblings, Tony McCollum of Sunnyland and Beverly McCollum of Omaha, Neb.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, and infant son, Gregory Lee.

She graduated from East Peoria High School in 1959. Barb began her working career as a bookkeeper for World Drug Store in Peoria. She last worked as a bookeeper at Mount Hawley Manufacturing in Peoria.

 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

A memorial service was held Dec. 20 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. The Rev. Ben VanKuren officiated. A memorial visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 2-4 p.m. Inurnment will be at a later date at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
