Rae McDonald, 88, of Morton
Rae Jean S. “Rae” McDonald, 88, of Morton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Rae was born on Aug. 12, 1929, in River Forest, to Raymond and Adeline Schieble. They preceded her in death. She married John A. McDonald on Oct. 20, 1951, in River Forest. They were blessed to have 66 years together.
Rae, “Grammi”, is survived by her husband John of Morton, and their three daughters, Susan (David) Ketchum of Columbus, Ind., Linda (Greg) Menold of Morton and Barbara (Steve) Tinklepaugh of Fort Myers, Fla. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Joshua (Jen) Menold, Stephanie (Sam) Smith, Kristina (Tony) Eichhorn, Andrew (Sarah) Ketchum, Jessica Tinklepaugh, and Sarah Tinklepaugh. She has nine great-grandchildren and one on the way! Also surviving is her sister Adele Looney of Wadsworth, Ohio, along with a niece and nephew.
Rae attended Denison University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was later a member of Kappa Peoria Area Alumnae.
Rae was a member of Grace Church in Morton. She was also a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter NB of Morton. She loved the many opportunities to help people, including teaching at Fantasyland Nursery School, working and instructing at Wool ‘n Wick, helping brides find the perfect dress at Ginny Lee’s. She also enjoyed volunteering at Methodist Service League and serving in her church.
Rae enjoyed playing tennis, hosting bridge parties, knitting for others and attending the symphony. One could find Rae even knitting with her eyes closed! Vacationing in Door County, Wis., and Sanibel, Fla., with her family gave her great joy. Any time spent with family and friends was special. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always brought a smile to her face.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 1, 2017, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Additional visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at Grace Church in Morton. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Nov. 2 at the church. The Rev. Jonathan Farrell will officiate the service. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
Memorials may be made to Grace Church in Morton or to Young Life of Central Illinois in Washington.
Rae was blessed to have wonderful caregivers over the past year from Apostolic Christian Skylines Home Care and ResCare. She was also given loving care by her OSF Hospice RN, Christine.
