Raiders display power vs. Pontiac

East Peoria senior Kali George was one of several players last week with a big start offensively. The Raiders scored 36 runs to win a combined three games against Olympia and Pontiac. The Raiders host Ottawa Friday.

East Peoria went indoors to start the 2014 softball season.

The Raiders doubled up Olympia, 4-2, Thursday at the Avanti’s Dome.

Sarah Finck fanned four and walked one while working around four errors to gain the pitching victory for East Peoria, the second-ranked team in the Illinois Coaches Association Class 3A preseason state poll.

Finck, George and Ciera Montgomery also had two hits apiece, including a Montgomery double. George knocked in a run.

Remi Ferguson launched a home run. Taylor Kellum also had an RBI.

The Spartans, rated No. 10 in 2A, broke up the shutout bid with two runs in the sixth inning.

The Raiders outhit Olympia, 9-4.

EP 10-22, Pontiac 0-2

The Raiders routed the Indians in both ends of a Saturday doubleheader.

In game one, Brooke Jacobs was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a homer and Ferguson, Finck and George had two hits.

Finck homered twice to knock in three runs. Montgomery and Ally Watson went deep as well.

Watson collected two RBIs. Ferguson, George and Kellum drove in runs as well.

Ashley Emert had a triple to support Finck’s eight-strikeout effort going the distance.

East Peoria pounded out 30 hits, 11 for extra bases, in a five-inning second game.

Whitney Adams was 5-for-5, while Kellum, Jacobs, George and Ferguson all had four hits.

Jacobs and Kellum homered, while Adams and Tori Lowery tripled.

Ferguson supplied two doubles. Finck, Jacobs, George, Watson and Khloe Livingston also had two-base hits.

Jacobs amassed five RBIs. Adams plated three teammates and George, Ferguson and Watson two apiece.

Finck, Emert, Kellum and Watson knocked in runs well.

Finck and Livingston both were a perfect 2-for-2.

The Raiders followed a seven-run third inning with nine tallies in the fourth.

George tossed a four-hitter, walking four and whiffing four in a complete game.
